GAFIATING

I'm Getting Away From It All this weekend. Well, away from Baltimore and my computer anyway. I'm going to visit the GIND and the Topless Tuner. But before that, I'm going to wash the dishes and go to bed.

I think I have a cold, some sort of sinus infection. So, far, it's evidenced itself as a continuous nasal outpouring, congestion, and exhaustion. No real headache or pain. :(

And I did put my newly black and silver video shelf together, and was quite disturbed when it exploded. Not explode really, but it fell apart when I was quite on the other side of the room and had left it in peace.

The bras have not yet arrived, but this is really not so surprising, inasmuch as they are being shipped from England.

"Heh!" I say, "Heh!"

I only sort of watched the parade. Parades are just not good on TV, that's all there is to it. Also, they didn't have their guests on long enough. I taped all of Virginia Hey's appearance. All two minutes and forty seconds of it. And Vincent Vetresca came, but his appearance was just sad. He didn't even get it together enough to mention what time The Invisible Man comes on. Also, it was said that a show called Black Scorpion will come on Fridays at 8 in January. What are they going to do with Invisible Man, I wonder? I know they bought another season of it.

Another lesson not yet learned
This was something Mulder didn't pick up on. And really, I don't expect Mulder to ever learn it, but one could hope that Skinner would lay down the law. When investigating scary things that make people disappear, hold your buddy's hand!

And for my next trick...
I took my video shelf apart and painted it this morning. And then I went to church. Not a specifically Christian church, because on some odd visceral level, organized Christianity nauseates me. (Not that I think Christians are evil or gross or anything, I mean that sitting through a Christian worship service or in a Christian church gives me an upset tummy. I think it's because I'm not a Christian, but my dad's a minister, and there's a lingering conviction that I'm going to Hell.) No, I dragged myself off to a UU church. The sermon was on living in unity while celebrating diversity.

The next step was to go to the library and check out books on Unitarianism. And, oddly enough, Witchcraft as well. The ministers said something that resonated with me: that people could use words (e.g. prayer, meditation, spells) with different connotations (they were specifically speaking of the UU debate on whether the movement is humanist or theist) to mean the same thing. And I realized that I want to use the ritual and focus of spells to focus my mind on things (like someone else might with prayer or meditation), even if my attitude toward magic is sufficiently skeptical that I'm pretty sure I can't work it if it exists.

Then I came home, took a nap, and painted the other side of the video shelf.

Live a Parallel Life!
I started working on a new stylesheet for this blog Friday at work, because I think it looks a bit too busy. Then Saturday I rearranged furniture. I finally got the wire shelving together, which mean pitching the cardboard boxes I'd had stuff in for so long and moving the other storage units I'd had along the wall to accomodate the new shelving. Also I moved the TV closer to the bed, since that's where I usually watch from. Now I can see the whites of people's eyes if I like. I somehow managed to do all of this rearranging while leaving my floor a mess, but I'm just talented that way.

In other developments, I bought some pretty expensive bras at double-d.com. I have high hopes that these will fit properly and comfortably. If not, they take returns.
