Evolution

It's occurred to me that there are some Voyager characters that have evolved since their introduction.

B'Elanna Torres
Once an aggressive, annoying half-Klingon woman who solved all of her problems with violence, she's now an assertive half-human woman who solves all of her problems with engineering, whether physical or social. And she's not annoying anymore.
The Doctor
Once an annoying, mono-focused little man trapped in Sickbay, he's become dynamic, multi-faceted, and mobile, and his bedside manner has improved just loads.
Seven of Nine
Once an aggressive, mindless Borg drone, she's now an individual, if occasionally with a stick up her ass. And we've removed enough hardware so we can drool at Jeri Ryan's T&A. (Who? Me? Crass and lecherous?)
Naomi Wildman
Once a bulge in Sam Wildman's tummy who made it difficult for her to walk, now she's a person, albeit a short one.

See, love, there's been lots of characters who've changed over the course of Voyager. Annoying/agressive characters have become less annoying/aggressive and gotten hobbies. And stationary characters have become independently mobile. :)

Arrivals

  • My monitor is here. I haven't hooked it up yet, I had to go to work soon after it got here and I got home just before Farscape, but it's sitting in my house. That's so cool!
  • Toni's grandmother is at her house. Not so cool. I hope they all live through it peacefully.
  • Mia has a blog. I never met her, she's one of shrift's groupies. We'll see if she really does this or if she goes the way of Amy Fortuna.
  • My tapes of QAF. I only watched the premiere, and I gotta say that I don't understand what Brian saw in Justin, even for a one night stand. Justin's a total infant.
  • A new story and a new blog entry from The Gind. Yay! It's a story I very much like, and a witty and insightful blog entry, as is typical of her episode reviews. I had wondered about Katherine's clothing. I hadn't really questioned the lack of character development on Voyager. I think I approach that show with the idea that it just is subpar for Trek and work from there. But, ye gods!, there are only two recurring Farscape characters substantially unchanged from this point one television season ago: Rygel and Scorpius.
In a sidenote - I'm having a sort of internal debate about The GIND. Not exactly a draining, deep emotional type deal that I sometimes go through. I'm wondering about asking her something. I mean, OT1H, it's a very simple request. I'm about positive the answer would be what I wanted, and it doesn't seem to be a big deal, on the surface. OTOH, it's not the sort of thing you can really do over. I mean, one does, in fact, try to repeat, but that first time is pretty key. No, I'm not talking about sex. But it isn't anything we can do until the next time she comes to see me. I'm not worried about it, per se. Just puzzling myself. (It comes from reading too many Anita Blake books. The later in the series you get, the more blood and sex there is to go around.)

Started new job

The hours are 12-7. Very cool. I left the house at 9:30 this morning and got back at 9:08 tonight. Not nearly so cool. I have a plan which should reduce the commute by about an hour. Inasmuch as I'm taking public transport almost all the way across the city, an hour less travel is all I'm really asking. But if I can't do that kind of reduction, I can't do this. Which is too bad, inasmuch as it's mindless work which leaves me with a lot of time to cogitate, crochet, and read. And write stories, if I can get back into the longhand writing thing. The only computer I have access to is a laptop unconnected to anything, including a 3.5" disk drive or a printer.

I hate college basketball

I really do. It's pre-empting Buffy and Angel on my local WB station, so now I can't hang out with the cool kids at BuffyLog.

Speaking of I Man...

Anybody know any fic archives or episode guides? All I could find was FoxMonkey for fic and no decent episode guides. Also, could somebody please get Vincent Ventresca a comb? What is the deal with men looking like they went to bed after taking a shower and applying mousse and not touching their hair since they got up? Is there some secret hairstylist strike? Do straight women find this bed hair sexy? Please, please tell me.

Invisible Man slash

For a long time, I haven't seen Invisible Man slash. I'd read some of Lucy Hale's fic and enjoyed it, but I really couldn't envision Fawkes and Hobbes doing it based on what I'd seen on screen. Until tonight, when I saw Flowers for Hobbes. There's a bad patch where Hobbes is acting like a stereotypical depressed film student with a crunchy Nietszche coating, but then he says (to Fawkes), "No one ever respected me here, really. No one ever cared about me here. No one." Of course, his life is in danger, causing his partner to run around screaming, "My friend! My friend!"

I sometimes wonder if I'm reaching a point where I can't hear American males calling one another 'friend' without assuming they're fucking (or want to be). I mean, there are things that I sincerely believe straight, unrelated American males don't do, like cuddle while watching TV, but they can express some pleasure in one another's company without lusting after one another.

Doing something

I just ordered a new monitor to replace this one, which has been dying since October. I can't really afford it, but if I stop using my credit card for any other purchases until I pay this off, I should be okay. It's not quite $298 to have a 17" monitor highly recommended by CNET delivered to my house (including shipping). Radio Shack wanted $299 (not including tax) for a 15", but I would have had it today instead of early next week. Was I clever? I don't know.

I've returned to Baltimore from Toni's, my monitor is dying, and I'm going to bed now.

who am i?

I call myself WitchQueen. I'm not a witch or pagan, and I'm not royalty. But I named myself on the SciFi bulletin board, and I've been that way ever since: a woman whose power lies in shaping her reality with words. I'm a polyamorous (yet single) young black lesbian living in Baltimore and I find that most of my social life revolves around the Net.

what do i do?

I'm a slash fan. I read and write slash, homoerotic stories about characters from television, movies, and other popular media. My current main fandom is Farscape, and my first real fandom was The X-Files. I dabble in a lot of other shows, particularly The Sentinel, Wiseguy, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watch a lot of TV and tape a fair number of shows.

what's the triumvirate?

We three kings of Orient are....

*cough cough hack hack* Er, sorry, wrong trio. Toni was the first of us to get a blog. As I was going through a period of extreme Toniworship, I knew I had to get one, too. Often in my blog, I would mention the Girl I'm Not Dating (AKA the GIND), because I love her. In the meantime, she and Toni made independent contact. One day I mused aloud about her starting her own blog. Soon after that, she did. And so I (or the other two) may refer to ourselves as the triangle, the trio, and other various "three" words.
