I'm slow on the uptake

Please tell me I'm not the only person in fandom who ever goes around discovering that some of her favorite authors are the same people. It happened with LemonDrop/Quercus, and it just happened with Anna S. Turns out she's A Leigh-Anne Child, who was one of my first favorite author's in XF fandom. I hate feeling like a dip, especially when I'm trying to turn to fic for some comfort.

Maybe I should go to bed. I woke up at 7 am, which is all weird, as my new job means I don't have to get up before 9 most days.

Found another one

I seriously intended to watch the midnight showing of Farscape. I'd actually missed a few seconds of taping and wanted to re-record about half the show. However, having had a bit of self-revelation (not nasty, just unexpected) I decided that what I needed was some comfort. The second season finale being completely lacking in comfort of any kind, I got on the Internet and discovered that Anna of Sentinel fame has a blog now. It really belongs in her frameset or it doesn't look right.

Emotional roller coaster ride

I'm referring, of course, to the Farscape season finale. Can you say, "Ouch!" boys and girls? I can't even talk about it yet. At least we only have to wait until March 16, a mere six weeks. It's usually five months between an XF finale and premiere.

Also, I think the tides of my relationships are shifting again. I, um, well.... Frell, I don't know what's going on with me, except that I'm almost through with my self-appointed mission to read all of the Anita Blake books in order. Maybe I'm just going through post legerum depression.

More new toys

I installed my monitor! It is big and beautiful and clear and not flickering and woohoo! I'm in my business.

I also got some new bras today in the mail. I haven't yet bothered to try them on; I've been too embarrassed. Embarrassed by what, you say. I sent an e-mail off this morning demanding to know why I hadn't gotten any bras yet. Now, I was actually perfectly within normal customer behavior, it had been just over a month since the last time I sent a communication to Double-d, but I still felt stupid for making a fuss when the bras were nearly in my hot little hands.

New toys

I've decided to add some new stuff to my blog. One thing is for me, and one is for you. For me, I'm going to do some tracking with sitemeter. I'm really intensely curious to find out if anyone besides me, Toni, The Gind, and, well, the bloggers to whom I have previously referred read this thing. And, I've added discussion threads with blogvoices. Now, if I say something that really confuses you or excites you, maybe you'll let me know.

We Came, We Sang by Shrift

I'm talking about it here because it almost, but doesn't quite, make my recs page, but I wanted to comment on it. (And it is worth reading, all the same.)

It's a very good PWP, very sexy, very hot, and I think it works well with the series. (I haven't actually seen the episode it's based on, but it seems right for Angel. I have a thing for fic that extends scenes from the show. Not missing scenes so much, but scene illumination. There's an excellent Sentinel example at about 230k, and Shrift's story is an excellent Gunn/Wesley PWP in that same vein but way shorter.

However, it doesn't sound right. Our narrative POV is supposed to be Gunn for this story, but Gunn's voice, the voice of a young black man from the hood (via a Hollywood scriptwriter admittedly) ends up getting mixed with the author's voice. The white college student author's voice. It's not bad (Shrift does not come off as a white girl trying to be hip), and if you've only heard black ghetto speech as mediated through Hollywood, it might even sound good. Actually, what it really sounds like is a middle class or upper middle class person who is comfortable in urban/hip hop/black youth culture, someone conversant with both Standard English and "street lingo". But it doesn't work as Gunn's voice, because Gunn is not quite that wealthy or well-educated.

Frankly, I'm not sure PWP as a genre usually calls for this type of critique, but *shrug* -- 'Smy blog.

who am i?

I call myself WitchQueen. I'm not a witch or pagan, and I'm not royalty. But I named myself on the SciFi bulletin board, and I've been that way ever since: a woman whose power lies in shaping her reality with words. I'm a polyamorous (yet single) young black lesbian living in Baltimore and I find that most of my social life revolves around the Net.

what do i do?

I'm a slash fan. I read and write slash, homoerotic stories about characters from television, movies, and other popular media. My current main fandom is Farscape, and my first real fandom was The X-Files. I dabble in a lot of other shows, particularly The Sentinel, Wiseguy, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watch a lot of TV and tape a fair number of shows.

what's the triumvirate?

We three kings of Orient are....

*cough cough hack hack* Er, sorry, wrong trio. Toni was the first of us to get a blog. As I was going through a period of extreme Toniworship, I knew I had to get one, too. Often in my blog, I would mention the Girl I'm Not Dating (AKA the GIND), because I love her. In the meantime, she and Toni made independent contact. One day I mused aloud about her starting her own blog. Soon after that, she did. And so I (or the other two) may refer to ourselves as the triangle, the trio, and other various "three" words.
