Pretty Little Pictures

For many, many moons I have been jealous of Nestra's little rotating icons. First it was flowers, now it's attractive men. I've decided to do a redesign of my site using TV icons.

These are a list of some that I didn't use, cause they didn't fit in with the look I want or they weren't for website use, just desktop.

Almost perfect

I've written a sequel to Piquant. It is almost perfect. There is one wrong sentence. (Well, I suspect that large numbers of fans will vehemently disagree with me that such a masculine character as Jim Ellison might ever giggle, but that's their problem.)

This is the wrong sentence:

After a few minutes of silent washing and chopping, Jim put in a jazz CD they both could listen to.

Now, it is important to get across the idea that Jim is turning on something they will both like, but I need some more elegant way of expressing it. I rack my brains and welcome suggestions.

Leaping on a bandwagon…

I decided to check the links in my sidebar, ended up changing a few, adding a couple, and reading a weensy bit from blogs I haven't looked at in just weeks.

Had to get a stortrooper. Two actually.

My dreads are longer and I'm about thirty pounds overweight, but the pic is not too inaccurate otherwise.

You'd think…

that doing a job which probably involves 30 minutes of work a day would allow me to do shitloads of fanfiction stuff. And, I suppose I have done more fanfiction stuff lately than I have in months. But, I can't seem to concentrate as long as I think I should on fic stuff. I end up reading books, which I actually find to be an acceptable substitute, and playing computer card games, which fall in the category of not-so-good excuse.

Actually, I feel bitchy because I just posted something to Leviathan for the first time, and I'm afraid of looking stupid. It's just a little semi-slashy bit I wrote one night; it's not even archived on my page, although you can find it at ff.net. There's this girl on the list, maayan, so far I've only found time to read her fic on the list, and, vraiment, je suis vachement étonnée. (Did I mention she's French and in Cambridge, England, according to her weblog. The intimidation factor just keeps growing….)

But the gind liked my latest fic effort, so really, life is good.

The Lazy Bum wakes up to reality

Many, many, many moons ago I planned to take over the Farscape Slash Archive. And I started working on it. My first order of business was to locate as many of the stories as I could on Google. My second order of business was to re-format the stories because the previous archivist had done some things in HTML I didn't like.

18 stories from the end (not counting some missing stories I needed to track down) I stopped. I got sick of the whole business, I think I started writing some more, reading some more blogs, stopped sleeping again. For whatever reason, although I was almost done, I quit working on it.

At Southern Gathering, a nice little local slash con, some people started asking, "why doesn't Farscape have an archive?" And I had to admit it was because I hadn't finished it. I said I would go home and work on it immediately.

I am a big fat liar.

However, tonight, I transferred all of the relevant files to disk. Here's crossing my fingers that I will actually work on them at the big fancy job where they pay me to sit all day.

The fate of the Earth will be decided as it should be...

... in Mortal Kombat! (Annihilation)

I linked to a review which hated the movie for two reasons. 1) It was the first review I found. 2) I suspect that, under normal circumstances, I would feel exactly this way about it. But the first time I saw it was with the GIND, during the cheap morning show, in this huge Parisian multiplex in Les Halles, with French subtitles. Yes, in Paris, they will subtitle, as opposed to dubbing, showings of such mindless dren as Mortal Kombat 2. Because Parisians are, apparently, insanely obsessed with movies. Or, perhaps, no French person was willing to speak such stupid lines.

Anyway, there are three great things about MK2. One, it is deeply stupid. There is no pretense of greatness, style, or depth. (They go for a little wit, but you can just giggle at that. Laugh at them, not with them.) Two, the Wise Ancient Master (Rayden) keeps insisting that Liu Kang is the Earth's only hope. Five minutes into the film, everyone but Rayden has noticed that the Earth is irrevocably doomed, and could we please send Sonya so as to go out with a smidge of dignity? Third is Sonya Blade, who is just sort of lusty and blood thirsty and has a nice set of boobies, too. Actually, there are several sets of nice boobies, most of which belong to bad guys, so they wear very few clothes.

I mention this because TBS is showing it at 2 am Friday. Or maybe Saturday, I always get confused by the way Yahoo! lists stuff that early in the morning. It's not worth taping, it's not worth staying up for, but if you happen not to have gone to bed and are a feeling somewhat punch drunk, you might just have a good time.

American Patriotism

In the name of these United States, we have been encouraged to brand ourselves (wear red, white, and blue), buy consumer goods and stocks, and declare war on an as yet undetermined enemy. I find myself rather disgusted.

On the other hand, people are flooding the Red Cross to give blood, I've heard of four independent fan fundraising actions, and major networks devoted many, many hours of programming to coverage which, aside from its sheer repetition, was very good.

I don't like fanatacism and mindless swarming, but I do love people working collectively for good. Does the one call the other?
